Catwalk modelThe size-zero debate has been raging for a while now, but it's still almost impossible for women who are size 14-plus to wear designer clothes.

But chic American department store Saks Fifth Avenue has decided to make stand and show their support for curvy ladies by selling plus-size designer clothes in its New York branch for the very first time.

The clothes, from the Autumn/Winter 2010 collections, will soon be available up to a UK size 18, or even UK size 24. Last season they were only available up to a UK size 14.

The store's legendary high end third-floor houses collections from the world's most exclusive designers, including Chanel, Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana.

Initially, styles are likely to be produced as one-offs or in small numbers, but if the trial goes well, Saks will roll out the venture to its other US stores.

With any luck, plus-size designer wear will soon be available on this side of the pond, too.
