Confused woman squatting on scalesEven if you are busily counting the calories you consume during each and every day, there are moments when you may ponder the reason why those pounds are still clinging to your hips.

Well, the latest calorie-counting gadget could come to the rescue.

The Ki Fit is a sensor worn on your upper arm, which is able to track the number of calories burned, steps taken and sleep efficiency of your day-to-day life.

Combined with a personal online account, which allows you to log your food and drink intake and compare it with your calories burned, you should quickly be able to see where the calories are going... or not, as the case may be.

Your Velcro-fastened device simply needs to be synced with your computer once a day in order to perform its magic.

A separate beeper, hidden discreetly in your handbag means you can monitor your progress and your daily report will be an eye-opener too, providing graphs of your sleep patterns, movements and food intake.

Of course, there is a downside.

The Ki Fit should be worn at all times (except in the shower) in order to be effective, which is all very well under a thick woolly jumper but not so good with a slinky LBD.

And it could leave you obsessively checking your calorie burn every few minutes.

But then, that's a small price to pay to discover the secrets of when and where all those calories go.
