That's right, according to the latest research, red wine could help you to think. A series of projects investigating the health benefits of the drink found that resveratrol, an natural plant chemical found in red wine, increases the blood flow to the brain.
The study, carried out by researchers at Northumbria University, found that both men and women got better results in mental arithmetic after taking resveratrol.
And the good news doesn't end there. Resveratrol also has the advantage of helping to burn off junk food and is associated with a reduced risk of heart disease. Other studies have also linked it with fighting cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's.
In fact, it is so effective that last year a drug based on resveratrol went on the market with the as a weight control supplement. Apparently allowing people to eat as much as they liked without putting on weight, the effect of the resveratrol tricked the body into thinking it needed to burn off fat.
Sadly, white wine just won't do the trick as it is made without the grape skins which contain the natural antixodants.
Good news for the teetotallers though, resveratrol is also to be found in raspberries, blueberries and cranberries so you can also increase your brain power during the working day.
